David J. Lozano, MD

Pediatric Pulmonology

Dr. David Lozano is a Pediatric Pulmonologist licensed by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners and certified by the Pediatric Pulmonary Medical Board of the American Board of Pediatrics. He is also certified by the Sleep Medicine Board of the American Board of Pediatrics.

Dr. Lozano received his Doctor of Medicine degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas and completed his Pediatric Residency Program at the University of Florida, Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital. Following his Pediatric Residency, Dr. Lozano completed a three-year Pediatric Pulmonology Fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Children’s of Alabama.

A year after the completion of his Pediatric Pulmonology Fellowship, Dr. Lozano joined the UAB Division of Pulmonology Medicine at Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham and practiced there for the next 13 years. He also served as the Medical Director of the Sleep Disorders Center at Children’s of Alabama for eight years.

In January 2018, Dothan Pediatric Healthcare Network welcomed Dr. Lozano as a physician at Dothan Pediatric Subspecialty Clinic. Dr. Lozano’s clinical interests include Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD), Pediatric Sleep Medicine, Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy, Technology-Dependent patients/Pediatric Home Ventilation, and Asthma. Dr. Lozano’s clinical activity has an emphasis on Pediatric Sleep Disorders of all types. He sees pediatric sleep patients in the clinic setting and interprets pediatric sleep studies. Dr. Lozano is the Medical Director of Dothan Pediatric Healthcare Network’s free-standing Pediatric Sleep Center.

Heather Choat, MD

Pediatric Endocrinology

Dr. Heather Choat is a Pediatric Endocrinologist licensed by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners and certified by the Pediatric Endocrinology Medical Board of the American Board of Pediatrics.

Dr. Choat received her Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical College of Georgia at Georgia Regents University, Augusta, Georgia, and completed her Pediatric Residency Program at the University of South Carolina, Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. Following her Pediatric Residency, Dr. Choat completed a three-year Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Children’s Hospital of Alabama in Birmingham, Alabama.

In July 2019, Dothan Pediatric Healthcare Network welcomed Dr. Choat as a physician at Dothan Pediatric Subspecialty Clinic. Dr. Choat’s clinical interests include type 1 diabetes mellitus, thyroid and parathyroid diseases, and disorders of growth and pubertal development.

Joanna A. McKinley, MD, FAAP

Dr. Joanna A. McKinley is a general pediatrician licensed by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners and certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.

She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree with Research Honors from the University of South Alabama and completed her Pediatric Internship Program at University of Alabama at Birmingham and her two-year Pediatric Residency program at University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson, Mississippi.

Dr. McKinley practiced as a pediatrician in Jackson, Mississippi and Birmingham, Alabama before joining Dothan Pediatric Healthcare Network in 2008 as a pediatrician at Dothan Pediatric Clinic. She began seeing patients at Dothan Pediatric Subspecialty Clinic in 2023.

Reed A. Dimmitt, MD

Pediatric Gastroenterology

Dr. Reed A. Dimmitt is a Pediatric Gastroenterologist licensed by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners. He is certified in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, and General Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics.

Dr. Dimmitt received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Missouri. He completed his Pediatric Residency Program at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford, Palo Alto, California. Following his Pediatric Residency, Dr. Dimmitt completed a three-year Neonatal-Perinatal/Developmental Medicine Fellowship at Stanford University School of Medicine, Stanford, California.

Dr. Dimmitt joined the UAB Department of Pediatrics in 2001 as a neonatologist. Because of his clinical and research interests in pediatric gastrointestinal disease, he completed a second fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition in 2009. He was appointed the Division Director of Pediatric Gastroenterology at UAB/Children’s of Alabama in 2010 and served in that capacity for 14 years.

In January 2024, Dothan Pediatric Healthcare Network will welcome Dr. Dimmitt as a physician at Dothan Pediatric Subspecialty Clinic. Dr. Dimmitt’s clinical interests include all pediatric GI conditions with specific focus on abdominal pain, complex care, and eosinophilic diseases.

Lisa Hicks, CPNP-PC

Lisa Hicks is a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner licensed by the Alabama Board of Nursing and certified by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board.

Mrs. Hicks earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing, Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, from the University of South Alabama, Mobile, Alabama. Her training includes Dothan Pediatric Clinic and the pediatrics department of Flowers Hospital.

Mrs. Hicks joined Dothan Pediatric Healthcare Network in 2017 as a nurse practitioner at Ozark Pediatric Clinic. In April 2021, she joined the medical staff at Dothan Pediatric Subspecialty Clinic.

Braxton Kennedy, FNP-C

Braxton Kennedy is a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner licensed by the Alabama Board of Nursing and certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master’s in Nursing with a Family Nurse Practitioner concentration from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. His training includes Ozark Pediatric Clinic, Innovative Healthcare, and Flowers Hospital.

Mr. Kennedy joined Dothan Pediatric Healthcare Network in 2023 as a nurse practitioner at Dothan Pediatric Subspecialty Clinic.

Khalisa Syeda, DO

Pediatric Cardiology

Dr. Khalisa Syeda is a Pediatric Cardiologist licensed by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners and certified in general pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics.

Dr. Syeda received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Ft. Worth, Texas, and completed her Pediatric Residency Program at the University of Illinois in Chicago, Illinois. Following her Pediatric Residency, Dr. Syeda completed a three-year Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship at Texas Health Science Center.

Upon completion of her Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship, in October 2019, Dr. Syeda joined the Pediatric Cardiology Division at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and established a permanent satellite Pediatric Cardiology practice at Dothan Pediatric Subspecialty Clinic. Dr. Syeda’s clinical interests include the care of children with pediatric and congenital heart disease, abnormal heart rhythms, and fetal cardiology.

Pediatric Surgeon

Dothan Pediatric Subspecialty Clinic houses a pediatric surgeon who travels from The University of Alabama at Birmingham and sees patients once a month for Pre/Post-Operative Care.
